The project involves the interior design and spatial planning of a new ~1,600 square foot prefabricated metal building in Dewey, Arizona, configured in a barndominium style. The structure will feature a combination of residential and workshop functions within a single envelope. Architecturally, the design will balance industrial and rural aesthetics, utilizing the structural efficiency and exposed elements typical of metal buildings.
The residential component, limited to 750 square feet per local code, will be efficiently organized to include essential living functions—such as a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping/living areas—within a compact layout. The remainder of the space will be dedicated to an open-plan workshop, allowing flexibility for work or hobby-related activities.
Key design considerations include optimizing natural light and ventilation, ensuring code-compliant separation of use areas, and enhancing the visual and functional cohesion between the living and workshop zones. The result will be a practical yet character-rich environment that reflects the rugged simplicity and adaptability of barndominium architecture.
